Amey Tamagni

I began my PTA career in 1996, when Kasuun Elementary opened in Anchorage.  I served on the Board in several positions until 2003, when I moved to serve on the Board at Hanshew Middle School as both a parent and staff member.  Somewhere in that time, I also served for a year on the Anchorage Council of PTAs.   I am now starting my 3rd year as the Vice President of Membership for the Alaska PTA.

I have worked for the Anchorage School District for a number of years.  I have been in the Life Skills setting at Hanshew Middle School for six years and find it to be a rewarding job.   These last three years have had an added bonus to work for the Alaska State School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, (also at Hanshew), with Deaf students who are in the Life Skills program.

With three daughters, Al and I have always been actively volunteering outside the home.  He and I worked together in one capacity or another for the Girl Scouts as Leaders for two troops and Service Unit Registrars tasked with none other than Membership tracking!  When I was finished with one organization at any level, he would step up and pick up where I left off.  We both continue to work together on PTA projects and have found it is a sure way to see each other.  Our daughters actively volunteer for whatever we are involved with.  They have come to understand that the many hours we give to PTA and other programs benefits everyone’s kids.  They have also learned that the PTA office is a great place to run into Mom and Dad together!

I look forward to another year of working on the Alaska State PTA Board with such great people.  If you want to learn the definition of extended family, come join us!  Our doors are always open for volunteers.
